Yaps Memory
Use Yaps Memory to keep Markdown notes across coding-agent tasks through the Yaps desktop app. It requires an account and an eligible trial or Yaps Pro; there is no permanent free tier.
Start with the current requirements ↓What it helps you do
Choose it when a project decision or working note should survive beyond one agent task. Yaps supplies the local Markdown vault and MCP server; the plugin supplies instructions and integration files. Connections begin read-only. Enable note writes separately in Yaps → Settings → Agent Access when you want the client to create or edit notes.
The same repository also offers dictation, transcription and media workflows. They share the desktop installation but have separate dependencies; installing Memory does not establish that every media workflow is ready.
Costs and access requirements
The shared setup instructions explicitly say Yaps no longer has a free tier. Activate the trial offered to your account when eligible, or Yaps Pro. Trial eligibility, duration and price come from the app; this listing does not promise a trial to every user. The MIT license covers the plugin material, not a free entitlement to the desktop product. See Yaps for current product terms.
Documented setup
Install the official Yaps desktop app, open it and complete account setup. The README requires Yaps 2.3.124 or newer for its safe automatic account handoff. For Claude Code, install only the memory workflow:
claude plugin marketplace add richawo/yaps-codex-plugin
claude plugin install yaps-memory@yaps
Reload plugins or start a new session. Ask: “Set up Yaps Memory and guide me through my first useful action.” The repository also provides a Codex installation path; client-version compatibility has not been tested here.
Check your first result
First ask the client to read one non-sensitive note. If you enable writes, create a clearly labeled test note and reopen it in a new task to confirm persistence. Check the saved Markdown rather than relying on the agent saying it remembered something.
The README supports standard macOS/Windows downloads and official Linux deb/rpm packages; it says AppImage and Setapp automation paths are not supported. A local vault does not by itself mean your AI client keeps retrieved note text offline. Review the client's own data handling before using private notes.
What this listing covers
This is a free editorial listing based on public documentation and source inspection, not a security certification or a hands-on product review. Your AI client can have separate subscription or model usage charges. Check the linked product terms before connecting an account or running billable work.
